“Activity strengthens, inactivity weakens,” said Mr Ng, a spirited senior with a story to inspire. When life gave him lemons, Mr Ng chose to make something better – he found strength, not just in body, but in spirit.
Years ago, Mr Ng ran daily, enjoying the rhythm of the pavement under his feet. But joint pains crept in—especially in his knees and ankles—forcing him to pause. Though the change in pace dampened his mood, he chose not to dwell. Instead, he adjusted: replacing runs with daily walks.
To his surprise, the switch worked. The pain eased. He felt encouraged—until another challenge arrived.
One evening, he slipped and fell after work. The pain from the bone fractures was excruciating. More than the physical hurt, the emotional weight of possible long-term mobility issues hit him hard. “I don’t want my health to limit what I love doing,” he said.
Determined to regain control, he committed himself to physiotherapy. With patience and consistency, he learned new exercises that worked for his healing body. Step by step, he regained strength and flexibility.
Now, seven years into his journey with O’Joy’s Health-Oriented Ageing (HOA) programme, Mr Ng is one of our most active participants. He attends the Lala Exercise sessions almost daily—a 30-minute full-body routine that’s gentle yet effective. With simple tools like dumbbells, the Lala Exercise helps maintain strength and reduce stiffness, especially among older adults.
“I encourage other seniors to join this form of senior exercise. It’s effective and fun,” he shared. Beyond the health benefits, the social interaction has been uplifting too.
Today, Mr Ng spends around three hours a day on exercise—Lala movement in the morning, followed by walks in the afternoon and evening.
“I feel comfortable after exercising. I’ve made friends who share the same goal: to stay healthy,” he smiled. “Momentum is everything. Activity lifts your mood, clears your mind, and reminds you that you’re not alone.”
For Mr Ng, every step is a reminder: health is a journey worth investing in—no matter your age.
