- Using the Iceberg Metaphor as a tool to understand the psycho-emotional needs of the older |
| persons, i.e. understanding them beyond their behavours. |
Basic Counselling Skills |
- Engaging the older persons - active listening skills, responding skills. |
- Identifying feelings. |
- Listening for expectations. |
- Exploration and understanding the older persons’ beliefs, values and perceptions. |
- Use of reminiscence to affirm, appreciate and validate the older persons as well as a way to |
| connect and identify their internal resources. |
- Older persons at-risk : Signs and symptoms to look out for. |
- Community Resources knowing When, Where and How to refer. |
